If you’re a therapist dreaming of $10k months, diversifying your income streams, or scaling your practice into a group or an online platform, you’ve probably wondered if you can figure it all out on your own or if a private practice coach is for you. Spoiler: You can figure it out on your own—but it will likely take longer, cost more, and come with more frustration than necessary. Trust me, I’ve been there.
Hiring a private practice coach was a turning point for me, and I want to share how that decision transformed my business and my life. My hope is that my story will inspire you to take action toward your goals—without the detours and roadblocks I faced.
When I first started my private practice, I spent about a year researching and preparing before even putting in my notice at my agency job. I was determined to have everything figured out before I made the leap. I read every blog post I could find, downloaded every free guide, and watched hours of YouTube videos. I wanted to leave no stone unturned.
I also spent money on things I thought I needed—like hiring someone to handle my credentialing with insurance panels. But guess what? That didn’t work out. I ended up doing it myself in the end, wasting both time and money in the process. I also made the mistake of thinking I had to credential with all the insurance panels. It wasn’t until I found myself staring down the prospect of seeing 30+ clients a week just to make ends meet that I realized something had to change. That wasn’t the life I wanted.
Additionally, I truly thought that if I started my private practice, I would just *magically* hit 6-figures. In reality, it took me 3 years of trial and error before I figured out how to pass that $100k mark.
Fast forward to the end of 2023 when I started scaling my practice. By then, I’d already been through the wringer trying to figure things out on my own. But scaling brought an entirely new set of challenges. I dove back into the cycle of scouring the internet, buying PDF guides and online courses, and testing things over and over. Each mistake felt like a punch to the gut—especially the really costly ones.
I was frustrated, overwhelmed, and constantly second-guessing myself. I felt like I was throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what stuck. And the worst part? Deep down, I knew there was another way. I had considered hiring a private practice coach long before but always dismissed the idea.
Why? Because I thought it was “frivolous.” I told myself, Only people with a lot of money hire coaches. I’m not that kind of person. More than that, I didn’t feel worthy of having that kind of support. I thought I had to prove I could do it on my own—that asking for help was somehow a sign of weakness.
Here’s the ironic part: I’m a relationship therapist. I literally spend my days helping clients understand the importance of support, connection, and collaboration. And yet, there I was, trying to go it alone, thinking I didn’t deserve the same help I encouraged others to seek.
Eventually, I hit a breaking point. I realized that if I kept trying to do everything myself, I’d keep spinning my wheels. So, I took the leap and invested in a private practice coach. And let me tell you: it changed everything.
With the right guidance, I was able to:
I didn’t just save time and money—I gained clarity, confidence, and a sense of direction I’d never had before.
If you’ve been hesitant to invest in coaching, I get it. But here’s the truth: a private practice coach isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity if you want to build a practice that gives you freedom, flexibility, and financial stability.
Here’s what a private practice coach can help you achieve:
Most therapists hit a ceiling in their income because they’re stuck in the “time-for-money” tradeoff. A coach helps you identify ways to work smarter, not harder. This might mean raising your rates, refining your niche, or creating systems that allow you to maximize your time.
Burnout is real when your income depends solely on one-on-one sessions. A coach can help you explore other revenue streams like:
Diversifying your offerings not only boosts your income but also creates sustainability in your business.
Transitioning from a solo practice to a group can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. A coach can guide you through:
Social media can be a powerful way to grow your practice. A private practice coach helps you leverage Instagram to:
If you’re anything like I was, you’re probably trying to piece together advice from blogs, YouTube videos, and free downloads. You’re probably making progress, but it feels slow, messy, and frustrating.
I want to tell you this: You don’t have to do it alone. The support you need is out there. And hiring a private practice coach isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of strength. It means you’re ready to step into the business owner you were meant to be.
Looking back, I wish I’d invested in a private practice coach from the start. It would have saved me time, money, and countless headaches. But even with all the mistakes and missteps, I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned—because they brought me here.
Now, I get to help other therapists avoid the same pitfalls and build practices they love. If you’re ready to achieve $10k months, diversify your income, or scale your practice, I’d love to support you on your journey.
So, what do you say? Let’s make those dreams of freedom, flexibility, and financial success a reality. The only thing standing between you and your goals is the decision to take action.
